Title: How to Get Motivated When You Don’t Want to Go to the Gym

We all have those days when the last thing we want to do is exercise. Maybe you’re tired, maybe you’re just not feeling it, and the idea of staying home to watch TV sounds way more appealing. But deep down, you know you’ll feel better after you get moving. So, how do you push through the inertia and get yourself to the gym, out for a run, or even just on a walk? Here are a few tips that might help.

1. Take a Shower

One simple trick to refresh yourself is to take a shower. It doesn’t have to be a cold one (though those can be invigorating); just a regular shower can help reset your mindset. Sure, you might sweat after your workout and need another one, but that initial shower can give you the boost you need to get going.

2. Put on Your Workout Clothes

This is an easy but effective strategy. Simply put on the clothes you’d wear to the gym. Once you’re dressed for it, you’re more likely to actually go. Sometimes, it’s about creating a mindset shift, and putting on your workout gear can help you do just that.

3. Find Your Motivation

Motivation can come from different sources. One thing I like to do is listen to Ronnie Coleman. His famous line, “Lightweight!” always gets me pumped, even if I’m not trying to become a bodybuilder like him. It’s a silly little ritual, but it works for me.

If you’re dealing with emotional stuff—maybe someone broke your heart or doubted you—you can channel that energy into your workout. Some people, like Brandon Carter, even keep a “list of hate” to fuel their workouts. It’s about taking that negative energy and turning it into something positive.

4. Consider Pre-Workout Supplements

If you’re really struggling to get moving, a pre-workout supplement might help. I’m not a big caffeine person, but I do occasionally take a Ghost Energy pre-workout, especially the Sour Patch flavor. It’s not something I use often, but when I do, it gives me the kick I need.

5. Watch Motivational Content

Sometimes, just watching others work out can give you the push you need. I enjoy watching gym vlogs or even clips of people like Ronnie Coleman. For me, it’s not just about the content but about getting into the right headspace. If you’re into online fitness training, like I am, these videos can also provide some great content ideas.

6. Just Step Into It

The hardest part of working out is often just getting started. Once you’re at the gym, on the track, or even just out the door, you’ve won most of the battle. After that, it’s easier to keep going. Establishing a routine that works for you can also make a big difference in staying consistent.
